Whether you call that self-defense or something darker, the facts are not in dispute.
We separate two things. That the war kills children — and that children have been targeted — is documented and graded below: the casualty scale, the IDF’s reported acceptable-loss ratio, and the testimony of named US and UK surgeons. The word looted is our characterization — a judgment about the public’s consent, not something we grade.
We are not asserting that a court has found deliberate targeting of children to be Israeli policy; none has. We carry the surgeons’ conclusion of deliberate targeting as attributed expert testimony (PROBABLY TRUE — multiple independent witnesses, but not adjudicated), and the acceptable-loss ratio as attributed to the intelligence officers who described it, with the IDF’s denial noted. We are not disputing that Israel can arm to defend itself, nor asserting every one of these specific bombs will strike a child. The case for the sale — and what it does and does not answer.
The official framing: this is a routine government-to-government defense sale to a sovereign ally; the administration casts it as replenishing Israel’s depleted munitions stocks and as deterrence against Iran and Hezbollah. Israel, for its part, says it targets militants and blames Hamas for embedding fighters and infrastructure among civilians, which it argues makes civilian harm Hamas’s responsibility rather than its own. Those are real arguments and we state them without caricature.
What it does not answer: none of that rebuts the documented facts on this page. It does not change that the munitions are 2,000-pound bombs with a lethal radius measured in the hundreds of feet; that a New York Times investigation found them dropped where civilians had been told to shelter; that a UN commission calls the child toll unparalleled; or that the American public is funding the purchase. “Deterrence” and “restocking” are descriptions of intent; they are not evidence about where 40,000 heavy bombs land.
The bipartisan frame: this is also not a Trump-only story, and we don’t tell it as one.
