A slice of the ultra-wealthy is pursuing spaces beyond ordinary democratic law. The individual cases are FACT; the 'same class, same playbook' reading is SOME SMOKE — a shared ideology across overlapping-but-distinct networks, NOT a coordinated cabal.

We correct 'Juan Carlos' → Juan Orlando Hernández, and we explicitly reject the antisemitic 'Mega Group secretly runs the world' framing. The real story — an openly-funded 'exit the state' project — is more alarming than the fake one.

A U.S. president tried to acquire Greenland — and the idea traces to billionaire friend Ronald Lauder.

Trump's pursuit of Greenland is FACT (2019 rift with Denmark; revived in 2025). That it originated with Ronald Lauder — Estée Lauder heir, Trump's friend since the 1960s, ex-US ambassador to Austria — is well reported: John Bolton recounted Trump crediting 'a prominent businessman he knew,' identified as Lauder, who suggested it ~2018 and offered to back-channel with Denmark. Origin: PROBABLY TRUE (Bolton + consistent reporting); the pursuit itself: FACT.

Lauder has since taken commercial stakes in Greenland — a conflict analysts call hard to read as purely commercial.

After championing U.S. control, Lauder took holdings there — a participant in Greenland Development Partners (Delaware consortium) into the Greenland Investment Group, whose reach extends to the island's strategic resources (rare earths for defense/AI). Politiken quoted analysts: hard to see as purely commercial given his Trump ties and his role encouraging U.S. control. Investments + conflict = FACT; the 'pushed policy to benefit investments' motive is posed, not proven.

The 'same people': the Thiel/Pronomos network-state crowd behind Próspera is also pushing to make Greenland a 'freedom city.'

The Greenland story has two layers. Lauder planted the acquisition idea; the private 'freedom city' push comes from the same movement behind Próspera. Praxis — 'the world's first Network State' (Balaji Srinivasan's concept), founded by Dryden Brown, backed by Pronomos (Patri Friedman/Thiel) plus Andreessen and Sam Altman — has eyed Greenland since 2019; after Trump's 2024 win Brown posted 'I went to Greenland to try to buy it.' Reuters: Silicon Valley investors lobbied the administration for a low-regulation Greenland freedom city, with Ken Howery (Trump's ambassador to Denmark, PayPal co-founder with Thiel/Musk) reportedly in talks. One network — Honduras, Greenland, Venezuela. FACT = the advocacy/lobbying; whether they DRIVE the annexation policy is posed, not proven.

Próspera: a venture-funded 'private city' that won the right to write its own laws inside Honduras.

Honduras's 2013 ZEDE law authorized autonomous private zones with their own civil law, courts, and taxes outside national jurisdiction. Próspera (Roatán) became the first, Dec 2017, funded via Pronomos Capital (2019) — founded by Patri Friedman, grandson of Milton Friedman and son of anarcho-capitalist David Friedman. In 2008 Patri co-founded The Seasteading Institute (autonomous ocean communities beyond any nation's laws) with Peter Thiel seed money; Pronomos is that idea moved onto land, backed again by Thiel plus Andreessen, Ravikant, Srinivasan — the 'network state' movement. Trump's proposed federal 'Freedom Cities' is the domestic cousin. Seastead, charter city, Freedom City: three names for one project.

The regime that enabled it was a narco-state — and when voters repealed the law, Próspera sued Honduras for ~$10.8B.

Correction: 'Juan Carlos' is Juan Orlando Hernández, Honduras's president (2014–2022), convicted in 2024 in U.S. federal court of cocaine trafficking and sentenced to 45 years — the ZEDEs were handed out under a government the U.S. proved was a narco-state. After Xiomara Castro's win, Congress repealed the ZEDE law 128–0 (April 2022) and the Supreme Court declared the framework unconstitutional (Sept 2024) — struck down by both branches. Próspera (the plaintiff, not the defendant) responded with an ICSID claim under CAFTA-DR seeking up to $10.775 billion — roughly a third of Honduras's annual budget. Still pending: a Sept 2026 tribunal ruling rejected Honduras's jurisdiction challenge, so it proceeds. Próspera keeps operating and now pitches itself as a global ZEDE-network developer — the model is built for export.

The model made real: after the U.S. toppled Maduro, the charter-city movement pitched a Venezuela 'Freedom City' it had war-gamed since 2019.

Jan 3, 2026: U.S. forces launched Operation Absolute Resolve, captured Maduro, and rendered him to New York on narco-terrorism charges; Trump declared the U.S. 'in charge' (NYT, CNBC, Dept. of Defense). Within days the Charter Cities Institute published a plan for a jointly U.S.-Venezuela-run 'Freedom City' on 'largely unpopulated land,' using U.S. courts. Not improvised: on a 2019 80,000 Hours podcast, CCI founder Mark Lutter (funded by Thiel-backed Emergent Ventures) discussed a white paper premised on 'Maduro gets removed,' calling regime change the precondition. FACT = that documented sequence. The stronger claim that Thiel/Srinivasan/Andreessen engineered the invasion for a charter-city tabula rasa is Byline Times's thesis — motive + opportunity + stated intent, not proof — graded SOME SMOKE and kept fenced. The U.S. military toppled Maduro; we don't claim Silicon Valley staged it.

Even a private 'citizenship' was branded into being: Maxwell's TerraMar 'ocean nation.'

Ghislaine Maxwell (Epstein's associate, later convicted of child sex-trafficking) founded the TerraMar Project in 2012 — an ocean-conservation nonprofit that branded private 'citizenship' of the seas, invited 'founding citizens,' and framed itself as an independent entity; Maxwell called herself a citizen of TerraMar in a deposition. It shut down July 12, 2019, six days after Epstein's arrest. Caution against overreach: the record describes TerraMar as conservation, NOT part of the seasteading movement — no evidence ties Maxwell to Patri Friedman's Seasteading Institute or Pronomos. It's the rhyme that's striking, not a proven link: a nonprofit here reached for the exact language seasteading uses in earnest — a self-declared ocean 'nation' with its own 'citizens.' Graded FACT only for what's documented.

The 'Mega Group,' handled honestly: a real philanthropic club — not the cabal the conspiracy claims.

Addressed directly because these names attract it. The Mega Group was a real, loose club of wealthy (largely Jewish) philanthropists founded ~1991 by Charles Bronfman and Leslie Wexner, dues ~$30k/yr; Lauder is among those reported to have belonged — documented reporting. What we REJECT is the antisemitic conspiracy that it secretly steers U.S. foreign policy or runs intelligence ops, which lives in fringe/antisemitic sources. Social overlap = SOME SMOKE at most; 'secret coordinated control' = unsupported conspiracy. Not load-bearing here.

The throughline: one named, funded movement — recurring cast, not a secret cabal.

The connective tissue is stronger than 'same class': the Pronomos / network-state crowd (Patri Friedman's Thiel-seeded fund; Andreessen, Srinivasan, Altman in orbit) recurs behind the private-jurisdiction push in Honduras (Próspera), Greenland (Praxis + Howery), and Venezuela (CCI Freedom City). That recurrence is FACT. SOME SMOKE is the causal step — whether they DRIVE the state actions that open the door (annexation drive, Maduro's capture) or profit from decisions made in Washington for other reasons. An open political project with a named roster, NOT a secret directorate, and NOT the antisemitic Mega Group story. Different mechanisms — buy (Greenland), build (Próspera/Venezuela), brand (TerraMar) — one goal: operate outside the law that binds everyone else.
